International Telecommunications Union says recycle
The International Telecommunications Union held a study that proved over four billion individuals in the world, have subscriptions to cellular phones, showing just how much technology affects the human race.
Every year more than a billion handsets are manufactured, when old phones could be recycled or at the very least their components could be used in other areas. Nokia say that only 2 % of users are availing of the free collections, a very disappointing amount, so every part of the sector needs to do more, especially big companies like British Telecom.
When a phone is manufactured precious metals and plastics are used which can be recovered and reused by companies like Recellular. Not only does this assist the environment by the saving of energy but these cellular devices can ooze hazardous substances like cadmium into the earth’s natural resources.
Vice President, Mike Newman is calling for action and explains that in the United States alone; nearly 130 million phones are thrown away every year. If that number of put into a worldwide context it shows just how much needs to be done.
