Cable or Satellite Television - which is best?

Who else get caught up in the Setanta crash here in the UK? I only joined them to get the added sports coverage. Now they have gone belly-up. They say because of the cost of using the Sky satellite (although paying over the odds for unwanted sports events might ne more relevant).

Setanta is now part of ESPN which itself is part of Disney – so maybe (at last) Sky has some serious competition. I won’t be holding my breath though. And now I can’t get the service I was paying for.

If sports channel providers cannot compete with Sky it makes me wonder if going down the freeview and top box route might be the best option. I have been checking out freeview and you can get Sky Sports News – which I’m now thinking is all I need. So I have been trying to see which is the best freeview option in the on-line forums.

If you live in a town or city you probably have major choices to make. You actually get to choose between cable providers such as Virgin Media or the all-conquering Sky. It’s difficult deciding which is best – but independent advice is available here if you are interested. I live in the country – so I have to choose satellite. Which effectively means Sky – or nothing. I am thinking nothing might be the best option – with freeview.

One of the best looks to be Dreambox – but there seem to be a lot of different options. Whatever happened to plug-in and play? Eurovox looks to be equally good. Again there is plenty of advice available on-line.

After my last telephone bill I was even thinking about biting the bullet and re-joining Sky. They are offering great combination deals on internet and telephone rental. As far as I can see, e, as BT is so expensive, the Sky television channel packages would effectively be freeview too, at British Telecom prices.

Decisions, decisions – it’s a tough one that’s for sure.
