Two on the One Show

I cannot be the only one intrigued by the One Show on BBC? Every day an amiable (but miserable-looking) Brummie and an Irish girl try and brighten up our evenings with a host of little stories and semi-topical features. They are joined by a stream of non-entities and wannabees of varying degrees of annoyance. But for me the principal point of interest is the two presenters.

The programme is anchored by Adrian Childs. This amiable Brummie seems to crop up all over the place. He does some terrible filler to try and eke out The Apprentice. And he also finds the time to be pally with footballers old and new on Match of The Day. So he is quite literally a man for all seasons as well as all evenings.

But it is his glamorous co-host, Christine Bleakley who is the most fascinating item on the daily agenda. Her hair changes every evening – and rather intriguingly so does her degree of suntan. After the daily excitement of seeing how copper-coloured she has turned overnight –and how bizarre her outfit is – we are plunged straight into a hotchpotch of items that vary from places with names that make you snigger, cuddly animals or even events from history.

There is also the obligatory celebrity who has something to sell – and does his or her best to look intrigued at what tosh is going on that particular evening.

I am not sure what qualifications you need to present a Oner Show feature – but a speech impediment and an annoying affectation are obviously high up the list.. Hence you get a laddish Phil Tufnell, a wag with a turban who dresses like a clown, a clown who used to be an MP - and even a Prime Minister’s daughter. And plenty of anorexic girls in short skirts. Oh and a One Show doctor. And a vet.

If you haven’t seen it, I wholeheartedly recommend The One Show. You never know – you too may be wondering how you get an ever-changing tan and hairstyle.
