• When can I apply for The Network 2013?
Applications for The Network 2are now open and will close 21 April 2013.
• When is The Network?
The Network runs alongside the Edinburgh TV Festival, which takes place the last week of August.
• How long does it go on for?
The Network in Edinburgh last 4 days. But after that, you will be encouraged to apply for The Network at Work placement scheme, which starts in the autumn. You will also join our alumni group, through which you will receive special offers, access to further training and a heads up on industry jobs.
• I am still at college/ university – can I apply?
You can definitely apply. And you’ll still be eligible to apply for our special work placements once you finish your education.
• What qualifications do I need ot apply?
You don’t need any sort of degree or qualification to be eligible for The Network. We don’t ask about your qualifications as we are more interested in your potential and passion.
• What will I need to pay for?
You will need to pay for your travel to and from Edinburgh. Your accommodation and food while you are on the scheme is paid for.
• Where will I stay in Edinburgh?
You will stay in shared flats in student accommodation
• I’m 17. Can I apply?
You need to be over 18 to take part in The Network. You can apply if you are 17 but you MUST have turned 18 by August 2013.
• What will I be doing in Edinburgh?
You will be taking part in 4 days of masterclasses and practical workshops. The masterclasses are hosted by top industry professionals and are about current shows and themes. For examples, please click here
• Who will I meet?
We can’t confirm the actual names of people you’ll see until July 2013. But we can promise you that you’ll be meeting some of the most influential and important people in the media industry, including scriptwriters, producers, channel controllers, actors, publicists, programme schedulers and commissioning editors. In recent years, delegates have met and worked with cast members from Waterloo Road, Charlie Brooker, Al Murray, The Inbetweeners' James Buckley, and Krishnan Guru-Murthy, the team behind Horrible Histories Jay Hunt, Chief Creative Officer, Channel 4, Pat Younge, Chief Creative Officer, BBC, Zai Bennett, Controller, BBC Three.
• Will I get a job at the end of it?
We can’t promise that – but you will definitely be meeting people who have the power to give you a job! If you stand out and impress them, they might offer you the chance for a chat or some work experience, which could very well lead to paid work. TV is a notoriously difficult industry to get into, so getting that foot in the door and making contacts really helps.
• I want to be a presenter- will going on The Network help?
The Network is about finding talented people who want to work behind the camera. It’s not about launching your presenting career. It will, however, give you a better understanding of the people all presenters work with – from runners to producers to channel heads.
• Do I need experience of working in the TV industry?
No, The Network is open to anyone aged 18+ who is passionate about TV, and is aimed at those who have no professional experience. It's the first step into the television industry. We select delegates purely on the responses to the questions on the application form their ability to demonstrate their enthusiam and demonstrable interest in working in TV. The forms are judged by a cross-section of industry professionals who sit on The Network Committee.
• What are the Committee looking for?
They are looking for creativity, passion and a keen interest in the television industry. Please take the time to read through our Application Hints and Tips, available once applications open, before filling in your form.
• When will I hear whether I've been successful or not?
We’ll be in touch with all applicants by the end of June 2013 to let them know whether they’ve got a place or not.
• Can I apply more than once in the same year?
No, we will not accept multiple entries.
• Can I apply if I have been previously unsuccessful?
Yes, please do, as many Network delegates do gain a place second or even third time around.
• Can I apply if I have attended The Network before?
No, you cannot attend The Network more than once.
